Drink #2 from our alcoholic tea party experiment. This one sits somewhere between a mimosa and a kir royal: it’s light, bubbly, and has a fruity, mellow-flavored goodness (perfect for brunch!).

Chocolate Matcha (Green Tea) Cocktail
There were a few factors that culminated in this post:
- Sarah and I had cabin fever
- We had way too many recipe ideas
- We could have fit a family of six in our extremely empty fridge
- The rum and tequila on our liquor bar had a passionate reproductive affair, meaning the number of bottles we owned had multiplied by about four. (It had nothing to do with the fact that I’m poor at prioritizing and went to the liquor store instead of the grocery store last weekend.)
Our solution was to throw a tea party.
Mardi Gras Melonade Cocktail
Last Mardi Gras started innocently enough, with Sarah and I clinking shot glasses together at a dive bar in Northeast DC.
It ended with me passed out half-naked in a stranger’s fish tank. I found Sarah nearby, sandwiched on top of a trashcan and underneath what she thought was a charcoal grill, but was really just a lawn table that someone had set on fire earlier that evening.
Rose Water Shortbread Cookies
Hey guys! I wanted to do something pink and cute for Valentine’s day. I’ve been loving a shortbread recipe I found recently, and added a couple ingredients for a fresh twist. Read More »
Blood and Tears Cocktail
“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”
“But –“
“No.”
“Why not?”
“I’m very busy.”
Her face loomed over mine.
“You’re lying on the floor.”
“Yes,” I said. “I’m helping the fungus on my back flourish.”
She took a step away, but only to prod me with her foot.
“You promised you’d help me write another Valentine’s Day post.”
“When?”
“Two days ago.”
“That doesn’t sound like me.”
The prodding stopped. A phone appeared. A pink cocktail glowed on the screen.
“Remember that first one we did?”
“Not really.”
“Well, halfway through the night you said that you’d help me do another one if I made you a few more drinks.”
“I don’t remember that either.”
“Exactly.”
Touché.
But my roommate and I do things differently. I eat pizza on the couch and watch her do P90X. She puts garnishes on bowls of vegetarian tofu-noodle stir-fry, and I drink beer. Valentine’s Day is no different.Read More »
Lazy Strawberries & Cream Valentine’s Day Bark
Sarah here – my vocabulary typically consists of bland words like lovely, beautiful, hearts, sparkle…try to make it through this post :p
This is a simple last minute recipe for strawberries and cream bark for Valentine’s Day. You can hand it out in a big bucket, or wrap them individually (which is adorable). Read More »
Poppin’ Cherry Martini
I’d made a nice little pyramid of beer cans on the table, three-stories high and built on a landscape of unfinished statistics homework, and I could only barely see my roommate’s face behind this towering tribute to underachievement. She sat stooped over some thank you cards, signing letters and ambitiously trying to destroy the remnants of her fingernails.
